With cyber threats growing in complexity, organizations are ramping up efforts to secure their systems, data and digital infrastructure. In fact, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that over the next decade, jobs in this industry are expected to increase by 32 percent.
Recognizing the need for highly skilled workers in the sector, Lamar University has announced the launch of a fully online cybersecurity program: the MBA in Cybersecurity Management. Developed for working professionals and career changers, this program provides the flexibility and rigor needed to prepare students for the growing number of cybersecurity roles across industries.
“At Lamar University, we are dedicated to providing innovative educational opportunities that meet the needs of today’s learners and our economy,” said Dr. Brett Welch, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs of Lamar University. “This online Cybersecurity program reflects our commitment to academic excellence, and our vision to produce career-ready graduates with the skills and knowledge to thrive in their careers.”
With asynchronous learning and multiple start dates year-round, Lamar University is expanding access to career-relevant education and removing traditional barriers to advancement in the digital economy.
The MBA in Cybersecurity is geared toward mid-level managers aspiring to senior leadership positions, entrepreneurs and start-up founders and technology professionals transitioning to leadership roles, as well as recent STEM graduates, educators and researchers and government and military personnel.
To support this initiative, Lamar University has once again teamed up with its longtime education technology partner, Risepoint, which specializes in helping regional universities expand their online learning opportunities.
“As the world continues to evolve, we are proud to work alongside Lamar to ensure that students have access to education that is needed for today but also for the jobs of tomorrow,” said Fernando Bleichmar, CEO of Risepoint. “With the influx of tech companies moving to Texas, Lamar Cybersecurity students will be well-positioned for long-term careers in the state and beyond.”
The first cycle of classes begins on October 13, 2025, with an application deadline of September 22. To learn more about the online MBA and how to apply, visit https://degree.lamar.edu/online-programs/business/mba/cybersecurity-management.
