Southeastern Oklahoma State University is expanding its commitment to workforce-ready education with the launch of two new fully online degree programs: its first-ever doctoral offering, the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), and a new Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN) program. Developed with the support of Risepoint, these programs are designed to address pressing regional and national workforce needs while creating new, flexible pathways for student success.
The new degrees were recently approved by the Higher Learning Commission, the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education and the Regional University System of Oklahoma. Applications for both programs are now open, with classes beginning in Fall 2025.
“These programs represent a bold step forward for Southeastern as we respond to the evolving needs of our state and region,” said Dr. Thomas W. Newsom, President of Southeastern Oklahoma State University. “With the launch of our first doctoral degree and our first nursing program, we’re extending our legacy of excellence in the John Massey School of Business while also addressing a critical need for qualified nurses in Southeastern Oklahoma and the Texoma region.”
The 54-credit-hour Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree is the first doctoral-level offering in the university’s history and adds new depth to the AACSB-accredited John Massey School of Business. Offered entirely online, the DBA is designed for experienced professionals and includes concentrations in Organizational Leadership and Strategic Management. Grounded in the principles of conscious capitalism, the program emphasizes purpose-driven leadership, ethical practices and long-term value creation.
“The Massey DBA is not only a milestone for our institution, but for the communities we serve,” said Dr. David Whitlock, Dean of the John Massey School of Business. “It is designed for working professionals who want to lead with intention, and we’re proud to offer an accessible, highly engaged program that supports transformative leadership across industries.”
The university is also launching its first-ever Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN) program. Created to support licensed RNs who wish to complete their bachelor’s degree, the online program is designed to strengthen the healthcare workforce, particularly in rural and underserved areas of Oklahoma.
“We are thrilled to launch this RN to BSN program at Southeastern,” said Dr. Amanda St. John, Director of Nursing and Allied Health. “This new degree is an exciting step forward in our mission to improve health outcomes and support nurses as they expand their education and deepen their impact in their communities.”
Fernando Bleichmar, CEO of Risepoint, praised Southeastern’s commitment to innovation and access. “Southeastern Oklahoma State University continues to lead by example, delivering high-quality, workforce-aligned programs that are both forward-thinking and deeply rooted in regional needs. We’re proud to support Southeastern in expanding its impact and reaching more students with flexible pathways to meaningful careers in business and healthcare.”
Southeastern currently awards the second-most post-graduate degrees in Oklahoma and is known for offering one of the most affordable and accessible online business portfolios in the state. These new program launches mark a significant expansion of that mission.
